RYAN McGRATH 

CEO + PRESIDENT

Ryan is responsible for the executive oversight of all divisions of Asset Living (Asset Campus, Asset Multi and Asset Senior) - focusing on strategic direction, operations, business growth and team development.  He currently holds his CCIM designation, CPM designation, Real Estate Salesperson License, Real Estate Broker’s License, General Lines Insurance License and is the company designated representative for the AMO accreditation.   

Prior to his work at Asset, Ryan worked in the investment banking division of Goldman Sachs responsible for the execution of M&A and financing transactions in the industrial, energy, utilities and chemical industries. 

Ryan is a 2006 honors graduate of Vanderbilt University where he received his B.A. in Economics while competing on the varsity soccer team. His hobbies include soccer, shooting, adventure sports and Sako (his black lab).  Ryan is a member the Young President’s Organization (YPO) – Houston Chapter.

 
 

DAVID WALTHER
Chief Financial Officer


David is responsible for all financial management for all divisions of Asset Living. This includes the company’s financial reporting, planning and analysis, strategy and vendor management. David has over 10 years of financial experience.

He previously held consulting roles at KPMG and RSM. In those roles he performed financial due diligence and other consultation on more than 100 acquisitions. David is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) who received his B.B.A. in Accounting and Masters of Business Administration from Valparaiso University.

JOEY HANCE
General Counsel

Joey manages all legal matters for all divisions of Asset Living - including identifying and collaborating with outside legal counsel and providing support to the companies’ development and operations teams.

Prior to joining Asset, Joey was a commercial litigator at Beirne, Maynard & Parsons, LLP where he handled cases in state and federal courts throughout the country in various practice areas, including bankruptcy, construction, energy, insurance, intellectual property, employment, personal injury, and real estate. Joey is a 2007 honors graduate from Mays Business School at Texas A&M University where he received his B.A. in management. He then obtained his J.D. and M.B.A. degrees with honors from Baylor University in 2012. Joey’s hobbies include team sports, spending time with his family, and serving at his church. Joey is admitted to the Bar of the State of Texas and is as an active member of the Houston Bar Association and the Houston Young Lawyers Association.

DAVID HARGROVE
Chief Operating Officer

David is responsible for the supervision of the Asset Multi senior management team and portfolio operations. Additionally, David is responsible for fostering relationships with existing and prospective clients for potential new business development.

Prior to joining the Asset team, David was a founder of Greystone Management Services in Houston, TX in 1982. Greystone grew to 14,000 units prior to selling it in 1993 to the entity that became Greystar. David continued to work with Greystar until 2000 when Greystone Asset Management was formed and then later sold to Asset in 2013. David is a graduate from The University of Texas at Austin and served with the U.S. Air Force/Texas Air National Guard for six years. He is currently an adjunct faculty member for the University of Houston – Bauer School of Business where he teaches graduate level courses.

JULIE BONNIN
Chief Operating Officer

Julie is responsible for the supervision of the Asset Campus senior management team and portfolio operations. Additionally, she establishes performance goals and fosters relationships with existing and prospective clients.

Julie joined Asset in 2001 as vice president of operations for the multifamily division. With over 28 years of experience in supervising and managing real estate throughout the United States, Julie has developed a strong reputation in the industry for being a leader in student housing operations and serves on numerous panels highlighting innovative operating procedures. Julie is a graduate of the University of Houston with an associate’s degree in Real Estate Finance and Appraisals.

TYLER JOHNSON
Senior Vice President

Tyler is responsible for overseeing a team of multifamily regional managers, monitoring properties fiscal performance and day to day operations.

He assists in monitoring market trends, and making strategic decisions to ensure his properties exceed rental growth expectations and outperform market conditions. Tyler joined the Asset team in 2008 and worked his way up the ladder from a property manager, operations project manager, regional supervisor and senior regional supervisor. Tyler has extensive experience across all asset classes ranging from high end new development to repositioning assets through renovation and rehab. Tyler is a graduate of Texas A&M University and holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration in Finance and Economics.

STEPHEN MITCHELL
Executive Vice President

Stephen is responsible for managing the business development group, which includes client relations, portfolio growth, and support of client acquisition and development underwriting. He utilizes his skill set to assist our current and potential clients with all aspects of the investment and/or development process.

He has over 12 years of student housing experience focused on site selections, acquisitions and asset management. Prior to joining Asset, Stephen spent nine years in the student housing industry with two firms, Peak Campus Management and Place Properties, where he was responsible for all business development and acquisition activities. Stephen earned his M.B.A. from Goizueta Business School at Emory University and his B.S. in Finance from Kennesaw State University.

TJ CHAMBERS
Senior Vice President

TJ is responsible for sourcing new clients and assisting current client with their portfolio growth. He utilizes his skill set to assist our current and potential clients with all aspects of their deal evaluation process, relating to both acquisitions and development opportunities.

TJ has over 16 years of experience and has worked on more than 20,000+ beds of student housing in connection with both institutional and third-party developers. In all, he has been involved in more than $1B in projects. TJ was the first operational employee hired for the Asset student vertical in 2003. He briefly worked for a private student housing developer in their development department, functioning as the liaison between the development/operations groups on delivery of all national projects. TJ earned his B.A. in Finance from Texas Tech University, with a minor in Real Estate and Marketing. He has 2.5 years of study/coursework towards a Master of Architecture.

JC REEVES
Vice President

JC is responsible for sourcing potential clients and assisting current clients with their portfolio growth for the Asset Multi division. JC utilizes his skills to research both specific properties and the market/submarket in sourcing and speaking with owners about how Asset might benefit their current property’s operational performance while also assisting in finding acquisitions for the growth of their portfolio.

Prior to joining Asset, JC spent three years in the title industry as an escrow officer as head of Commercial Marketing, closing more than $175 million in transactions. JC earned his Bachelor of Arts from Rice University where he was also a member of the baseball team. In his free time, he enjoys duck hunting, coaching baseball, and spending time with family and friends.

RULISSA
Senior Vice President

Rulissa is responsible for the day to day interaction between all Asset Living team members and vendors in payroll, worker’s compensation and benefits. Additionally, she is directly involved in the talent acquisition and strategic planning for all Asset divisions.

Rulissa has over 20 years of human resources experience. Most recently, she served as the Vice President of Agency Development for Maschino, Hudelson & Associates providing benefits administration and service for some of MHA’s largest clients (i.e Asset). Rulissa earned her B.S. in Human Resources Management from Southern Nazarene University and she is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management. She holds her Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification. Rulissa enjoys spending time with her family and is an ardent music fan.

MONICA MORRISON
Chief Accounting Officer

Monica is responsible for the oversight of all financial functions of the Asset Multi clients, including accounting, budgeting, and reporting. Monica reviews the monthly property accounting reports and statements across the entire management portfolio, including HUD reporting, HUD audits, conventional audits, etc.

Monica has over 30 years of experience in construction, development, and property management accounting. She was previously the Chief Financial Officer of a management group overseeing 33,000+ unit portfolio. Monica graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Houston. She enjoys yoga on her spare time and is an avid lover of rottweilers.

RUTH FORD
Controller

Ruth is responsible for the co-supervision of the Asset Campus accounting department, and supervises all corporate operations of the College Station office.

Additionally, she has served in the role of corporate controller since joining the firm 25 years ago. Previously, Ruth was the corporate controller for Real Estate Management of America (REMA) prior to it being purchased by Asset Living in 1991. Ruth is a 1981 graduate of Northwestern State University with a B.A. in Business Administration.

NANCY KOVAR
Controller

Nancy is responsible for the co-supervision of the Asset Campus accounting department.

Nancy has over 30 years of professional real estate accounting experience including tax compliance, HUD reporting, acquisitions, new construction, and investor reporting. Previously, she served as the CFO of Chancellor Property Management Co. in Houston for 25 years. Prior to working at Chancellor, Nancy was an auditor for Kenneth Leventhal & Co. in Houston, a national CPA firm serving a broad base of real estate clients. Nancy is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She received her B.B.A in Accounting from the University of Houston.
