Save the Date: Covenant House's Annual Sleep Out is on Nov. 16th

At Asset Living, we’re dedicated to doing good while doing well, and constantly looking for ways to serve our communities. We’ve been given an opportunity to join our partner, Covenant House – a global non-profit that provides care to homeless youth – for their annual Sleep Out event on November 16. The Sleep Out is a night dedicated to sleeping out in solidarity to raise awareness around the more than 2,500 young people who come to Covenant House Texas each year seeking safe shelter, nourishing food, clean clothing, and essential services like job training, education, healthcare, mental health counseling, and legal aid. The funds raised during the Sleep Out will help Covenant House Texas provide 24/7 care, and the awareness raised will help to shed some light on the youth homelessness crisis.

At night, sleepers will give up their beds and Sleep Out in backyards, garages, porches, terraces, and floors across Texas. Please note that sleepers will need to be over the age of 18 to participate unless attending with a parent or guardian.

We'd like to extend an invitation to everyone in the Asset Living family and beyond to participate in this annual event. The best part is – no matter what city you’re in – you can participate from anywhere. Sleepers will have the opportunity to be anywhere and invite anyone (a great option for friends and families) to participate in a live, interactive online program with Covenant House alumni, front-line staff, and fellow sleepers from across the globe.

Anyone can participate in Sleep Out! Please feel free to get your teams, coworkers, friends, family, and your local community involved.

How do I encourage others to participate?

Share with friends and family Asset Living’s Sleep Out donation page. It’s not a requirement, but we do encourage everyone to help with raising awareness by posting on social media!

How do I Sleep Out remotely?

As we get closer to Sleep Out, a link will be shared for you to join the virtual live stream from our partner Covenant House. Please do your best to attend the entire live-streamed event. However, we understand if you need to join late or finish early.

What do I wear for Sleep Out?

Comfortable clothes to sleep in – athletic attire, pants, joggers, sweaters, socks, etc. Please wear weather-appropriate layers if necessary.

What do I sleep on?

To sleep, we encourage you to only utilize cardboard as a base to lay on and/or blankets.

Where do I sleep?

This is a remote Sleep Out event so please participate from your home. Your safety comes first, so we ask that you Sleep Out in your backyard, patio, balcony, garage, etc. If you do not have any of the above easily accessible, we ask that you still participate and do Sleep Out in your indoor area.

We do NOT encourage you to Sleep Out in a public area or a privately owned property that is outside of a personal home/house/apartment. We do NOT recommend sleeping at a park, parking lot, driveway, etc.

What if I have bad weather?

Sleep Out is a rain, shine, or snow event! Please keep in mind homeless youth on the streets battle the weather daily until they find a Covenant House.

Covenant House was founded in 1972 and has since grown to become the largest private shelter organization for homeless youth, with 31 locations spanning North and Central America. Located in the Montrose neighborhood, their Texas branch primarily serves Houston and Harris County, the fourth-most populous counties in the United States.
