Asset Living Joins the College Student Mental Wellness Advocacy Coalition

Last week, timed with World Mental Health Day, we shared that Asset Living would be one of 24 of the nation’s leading student housing providers making up the College Student Mental Wellness Advocacy Coalition, created in partnership with the Hi, How Are You Project. I believe that mental health is something that needs to be cared for with the same ferocity with which we tend to our physical health, and it’s incredibly exciting that Asset gets to officially be part of a group that is dedicated to doing just that.

This coalition will start by conducting surveys across the country, gathering research and learnings around the mental well-being of 8,000+ college students. With the responses and results of these surveys, we will be able to better serve our students by focusing on what it is they need most, coming directly from them. These surveys will allow us to optimize our processes while connecting students to helpful resources on their college campuses and supporting them where they need it most. We will also be able to use this information to improve our training processes for those employees who work on the student housing side of the business.

The statistics around college student mental health are difficult to take in—reportedly, 1 in 4 college students report dealing with a mental illness such as depression or anxiety. It won’t happen overnight, and it won’t happen without a lot of hard work, but we want to help bring that statistic down however we can. This coalition is absolutely a step in the right direction, and I look forward to the next opportunity that comes our way.

I encourage you to take a few minutes and learn more about the coalition—all the information you need can be found here: https://thrivingcollegestudents.org/
