Asset Living’s Anna Long Shares Advice on #BecomingAnAsset

Understanding how to build a successful team starts with learning from those who have worked hard to develop and shape their career to become an integral part of the team. In the #BecomingAnAsset series, we ask Asset Living employees to share advice for those looking to grow personally and professionally – from turning challenges into opportunities for career development to persevering towards a promotion – our team members are full of quality advice that can help to guide anyone towards success. Today we are hearing from Anna Long, Senior Regional Leasing and Training Director.

What is your background and experience in and what do you do within Asset Living?

“I have worked for Asset Living for over 10 years and have worked on-site, in new development, in the leasing, training, and marketing departments. Today, I’m a Senior Regional Leasing and Training Director, where I get to assist properties in their leasing and marketing efforts. I also assist in and create pieces of training for the portfolio to help develop our next leaders in the company.”

What piece of advice would you give to a new employee who is #BecomingAnAsset?

“Lean on the expertise of those around you. The network of talent and experience we have in Asset Living is vast. The seasoned veterans will help guide you so you can lead those that follow.”

What drives you to be the best team member possible?

“It means a lot that people depend on me as part of a system. So being the best for my team and properties drives me to perform. I know when I need support, my team will also be there for me.”

What is your favorite memory from this year or within your career at Asset Living?

“At the last conference Roger McNeil and I attended together we had a chance to catch up on how we were doing in life, not just work. He was and still is one of my favorite people at Asset Living. That memory lives in a special place in my heart.”

What advice would you give other women who are looking to pursue opportunities in property management?

“We need strong female leaders in property management to build communities where residents thrive. Be confident, choose areas of the business for which you have passion, always look for a challenge, and find a mentor who builds you up and tells you the truth even when it's hard to hear. You are capable when you decide you are capable.”

Lastly, what do you like to do outside of work in your free time?

“I enjoy serving at my church, spending time with my fiancé, traveling, and volunteering for service projects. We’re all in this together. It’s always nice to help someone else.”
