Asset Living’s Hunter Munson Shares Advice On #BecomingAnAsset

Understanding how to build a successful team starts with learning from those who have worked hard to develop and shape their career to become an integral part of the team. In the #BecomingAnAsset series, we ask Asset Living employees to share advice for those looking to grow personally and professionally – from turning challenges into opportunities for career development to persevering towards a promotion – our team members are full of quality advice that can help to guide anyone towards success. Today we are hearing from Asset Living’s Community Manager, Hunter Munson.

What is your background and experience in and what do you do within Asset Living?

I started working in student housing a little over five years ago while attending Texas A&M. I had the opportunity to start my career in the industry as a Leasing Agent (easily the best job for a college student) and today I’m a Community Manager of a 1,100-bed property. As a Community Manager, the job description comes down to what you don’t do onsite! One of the reasons why I fell in love with this career is because you never really know what the day will bring. It could be seasonal walks, the madness of turn, a leasing deadline, staff training, site-visit, or anything in-between. The variety in the day-to-day is what I love most about this job!

What piece of advice would you give to a new employee who is #BecomingAnAsset?

Put in the time, work, and effort, and you can achieve whatever goals you set for yourself. I’ve seen so many talented individuals join the Asset Living family, and I've watched them excel in their roles and move up to their dream position. From the on-site teams, the support our corporate team provides, the growth the training department gives, and so much more there are so many services provided by Asset Living and opportunities to get involved in an area you’re passionate about. No matter which direction you want to go in, the right position is out there waiting for you!

What drives you to be the best team member possible?

Reciprocation! I’ve found that when you show up and give each day your best effort, you create a winning culture. Once that winning culture is created, the numbers we work so hard for come that much easier, the staff works that much harder, and ultimately, the products and services we provide are that much better.

What is your favorite memory from this year or within your career at Asset Living?

This one will certainly sound like a cliché, but getting promoted at the beginning of this year was one of my favorite Asset Living memories. This was a very special moment that validated the potential my mentors saw in me from the very beginning. Hitting this milestone after years of training and running such a large and successful property is what it’s all about.

Lastly, what do you like to do outside of work in your free time?

I’m an absolute sports nut. Whether it be watching an F1 race or the World Cup, I’m typically tuned in! More importantly, I’m an Aggie sports fan. I’ve been lucky enough to attend some amazing games at Kyle Field and hope to attend many more in the future. When I’m not rooting on the Aggies, you can find my wife and me hanging out with our two Pembroke Welsh Corgis!
