Asset Living’s Kasie Linker Shares Advice on #BecomingAnAsset

Understanding how to build a successful team starts with learning from those who have worked hard to develop and shape their career to become an integral part of the team. In the #BecomingAnAsset series, we ask Asset Living employees to share advice for those looking to grow personally and professionally – from turning challenges into opportunities for career development to persevering towards a promotion – our team members are full of quality advice that can help to guide anyone towards success. Today we are hearing from Asset Living’s Compliance Specialist, Kasie Linker.

Tell us about your background, experience, and role within Asset Living.

“I joined the property management industry ten years ago as a Leasing Agent in tax credit senior housing. With experience ranging from Leasing Agent up to corporate training and product management, I have had the opportunity to experience a variety of different things within the industry. Out of the ten years in the industry, the two years I have spent with Asset Living as a Tax Credit Compliance Specialist has been my favorite.

Asset Living’s mission is that everyone deserves a place to call home. With tax credit communities, we can provide a luxury living atmosphere to those who may not have been able to afford the price of luxury conventional housing. Having the opportunity to see the behind-the-scenes work it takes to maintain a tax credit community has been so humbling. There are so many different rules and regulations within the tax credit housing community, and each is uniquely different. I have loved having a safe place that pushes me to learn all the nuances of affordable housing and sets me up for success.”

What piece of advice would you give to a new employee who is #BecomingAnAsset?

“Asset Living is a family. It is a place that values who YOU are as an individual. Be yourself and don’t hide. Put yourself out there and give your best at everything you do. There are so many opportunities for people to engage with each other. I highly encourage you to participate in the extras. I have had the opportunity to work with many people outside of my department and grow life-long friendships through the extra opportunities that Asset Living provides.”

What drives you to be the best team member possible?

“Seeing my coworkers, the staff in my property portfolio and Asset Living thrive as a team. Seeing the spark light up in my team’s eyes when they see the results from their hard work. Helping others fall in love with what they do. Whether it is achieving occupancy goals, helping team members to pass their state audits, or assisting a resident, all these things are so rewarding to me. I love what I do, and it is crucial as a team player to help cultivate an environment where people can thrive.”

What is your favorite memory from this year or within your career at Asset Living?

“There is a recurring favorite that happens every time one of the communities in my portfolio passes their TDHCA Audit. It is a reassurance that all the hard work that you and your team are doing is paying off. It is a reminder that you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, and not just doing it subpar but doing it with a level of excellence.

One of my other favorite moments was participating in Sleep Out with Covenant House. My department came together and raised funds as a team. We all slept at the same location. It was great to have the team-building opportunity while also having the opportunity to give back to the community. Seeing all the photos of #TeamAsset from across the U.S. sleeping outside to raise awareness for youth homelessness, made me feel so proud to work for Asset Living. It is rare to find a company that is in the business of property management to turn around and give as much money as Asset Living did to those battling homelessness.

Outside of work, what do you like to do in your free time?

“I love my family. Spending time with my husband, Ethan, and two kids, Samuel and Juliana, is my favorite pastime. I love traveling and exploring new places and cultures, as well as outdoorsy things like kayaking, hiking, and gardening. I also LOVE loving others so most weeks, you will find me giving back whether it is with our local homeless coalition or with my favorite non-profit Believing Restoration is Attainable which provides care and support for single mothers and widows.”
