Understanding how to build a successful team starts with learning from those who have worked hard to develop and shape their career to become an integral part of the team. In the #BecomingAnAsset series, we ask Asset Living employees to share advice for those looking to grow personally and professionally – from turning challenges into opportunities for career development to persevering towards a promotion – our team members are full of quality advice that can help to guide anyone towards success. Today we are hearing from Sydney Bies, Regional Leasing Specialist.
What is your background and experience in and what do you do within Asset Living?
“My journey with Asset Living began in 2019 when I joined as a Community Assistant. My career took an unexpected turn when I joined Asset Living, as I hadn't planned to pursue a career in housing. However, the dynamic and supportive environment at Asset Living led me to discover my passion for this field. Over time, my dedication and commitment allowed me to progress within the company. I was fortunate enough to be promoted to Leasing Manager and, later, Assistant Community Manager.
Currently, I am the Regional Leasing Specialist, which is a traveling position. I have the privilege of helping various communities by providing them with any support they need. My journey with Asset Living has been marked by growth, learning, and adaptability. I've discovered a passion for leasing and developed my management and customer service skills. As a Regional Leasing Specialist, I love having the opportunity to contribute to different communities' success while continually expanding my horizons in the world of property management.”
What piece of advice would you give to a new employee who is #BecomingAnAsset?
“To a new employee who is #BecomingAnAsset, I would offer this piece of advice: Embrace the unique culture of support and collaboration that defines Asset Living.
Despite Asset Living being a large company, you'll never feel like just another face in the crowd. The company culture places a strong emphasis on the success of everyone in their journey. This means that from day one, you are part of a community that genuinely cares about your growth and development. Don't hesitate to reach out, ask questions, and engage with people around you. Everyone here is invested in helping you thrive.
One of the most valuable aspects of Asset Living is its many opportunities to get involved and connect with others within the company. Take advantage of these chances to network, learn from diverse perspectives, and build relationships. Whether through team projects, company events, or simply reaching out to a fellow employee, these connections can be immensely rewarding, personally and professionally.”
What drives you to be the best team member possible?
“Wanting my colleagues to succeed is a big driving factor that pushes me to be the best team member. Seeing my teammates doing well and reaching their goals brings me so much joy. I believe that our whole team shines when we all do great. Cheering on my colleagues and helping them grow makes our work environment positive and exciting. We're all in this together, and their success motivates me to step up and contribute my best. Support and collaboration do not just help individuals – it helps the entire team!”
What is your favorite memory from this year or within your career at Asset Living?
“My favorite memory from Asset Living would be during my first turn-season. During that specific turn season, our onsite staff painted most of our units in-house. All of us working as Community Assistants at the time had already become such good friends, which made the painting days so fun. We were working so hard but still having such a blast. Asset Living brought us together, and I am thankful for these lifelong friendships.”
Lastly, what do you like to do outside of work in your free time?
“In my free time, I love soaking up time outdoors, whether tending to my garden or simply enjoying nature's beauty. Staying active is a big part of my routine, and you'll often find me working out or exploring new workout routines. Connecting with others is important to me, and I cherish moments spent hanging out with friends and my two cats, Ted and Toast. I also enjoy exploring my local area, whether browsing the farmers market, checking thrift stores, discovering new restaurants, or finding new coffee shops. All in all, my free time is a colorful mix of activities that bring joy, satisfaction, and a sense of connection to the world around me.”
