With the holidays right around the corner, it’s time to start marking your calendar and unpacking the decorations. Hosting can be stressful and time-consuming, but with the proper preparation, you will be the host with the most spectacular apartment.
Tip #1: Prepare Food in Advance
Consider preparing any food you can make ahead of time. Making food in advance allows time to cook without a deadline and makes cleaning up the mess before the company arrives less stressful. By doing this, you can avoid being in the kitchen so you can spend more time with your guests.
Tip #2: Create Small Dining Areas
If you can create small dining areas around your common area for guests to eat, do so! Having smaller dining areas allows your guests to feel less constrained to a large table and promotes mingling as well as an opportunity for your guests to have more intimate conversations.
Tip #3: Repurpose Space
If you’re in a tight space, don’t fret! Consider switching up how you use the layout of your apartment. For example, if the food is prepared in advance (Tip #1), the kitchen would be a suitable space for guests to mingle (provided you have adequate serving areas and standing room).
Tip #4: Make Room
Don't be afraid to reorganize your apartment. Though it is not always practical, moving around your furniture could help to open the space and make more room for guests. Try temporarily pushing furniture against the walls to create some extra room (and we won't judge you if you decide to use the closets to store any clutter).
Tip #5 Create a Drink Station
Free up counter space by making an area specifically for drinks. Whether you are serving eggnog or root beer floats, feel free to get creative with the drink station. For example, try adding a drink cart to a quiet corner to encourage guests to mingle and move around in a way that makes sense. Using all the space an apartment has to offer will increase functionality and will make each room feel much more purposeful!
