Asset Living’s Doris Granger Shares Advice on #BecomingAnAsset

Understanding how to build a successful team starts with learning from those who have worked hard to develop and shape their career to become an integral part of the team. In the #BecomingAnAsset series, we ask Asset Living employees to share advice for those looking to grow personally and professionally – from turning challenges into opportunities for career development to persevering towards a promotion – our team members are full of quality advice that can help to guide anyone towards success. Today we are hearing from Doris Granger, Community Manager

What is your background and experience in and what do you do within Asset Living?

“My journey in Property Management started over twenty years ago when I moved to Orlando, FL from Honduras, Central America.  Upon moving to Orlando, I started working in residential property management, a new start from my previous experience as a marketing manager. Although I started as a leasing agent, I was promoted to manager in less than a year. I am beholden to my first manager and mentor for her guidance and support in what was a new career for me at the time. My mentor also encouraged me to earn designations and network within industry organizations.

I am currently a Community Manage of Emerson at Celebration located in Celebration, Florida. My roles are daily operations, financial reports, budgets, and overseeing leasing, marketing, and maintenance. I enjoy bringing the community together and working with local vendors to create memorable experiences for our residents.”

What piece of advice would you give to a new employee who is #BecomingAnAsset?

“Be open to continue learning and make the most of opportunities. Conduct yourself with integrity because you never know the impact you might have on others.”

What drives you to be the best team member possible?

“One of my favorite quotes is “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success” by Henry Ford. This reminds me that everyone is different, and I cannot have a one-size fits all approach. By learning each person’s strengths and weaknesses, I can assign the right task for that individual. With each person’s success at achieving and often exceeding goals we create a strong team. I am driven to create strong performing teams while working hard, having fun, and showing them appreciation.”

What is your favorite memory from this year or within your career at Asset Living?

“I enjoy working at Asset Living and the support that I have received for broadening my education and involvement in the industry. I believe we should all aim to leave a footprint on what we love to do. After several years of volunteering with the Institute of Real Estate Management, I was chosen as the Central Florida Chapter President Elect for 2024. This is a great honor not only on a personal level but professionally and a great opportunity to inspire others to get involved and make a difference.”

Lastly, what do you like to do outside of work in your free time?

“In my free time, I love to travel, take photographs, cook, and help local charities. I enjoy being spontaneous when I am off, no agenda just a full tank of gas leading to a new destination, enjoying a good meal, and finding the picture-perfect spot. I also like to give back to the community and often participate in different drives to help those in need.”
