Understanding how to build a successful team starts with learning from those who have worked hard to develop and shape their career to become an integral part of the team. In the #BecomingAnAsset series, we ask Asset Living employees to share advice for those looking to grow personally and professionally – from turning challenges into opportunities for career development to persevering towards a promotion – our team members are full of quality advice that can help to guide anyone towards success. Today we are hearing from Jacob Humphries, Community Manager.
What is your background and experience in and what do you do within Asset Living?
“My background prior to joining Asset Living was in computer science, majoring in Cyber Security. Living in rural Georgia with little opportunities in this field, I decided to pack it all up and move out west to Idaho and began my journey in student housing. I started my career as a Community Assistant and absolutely fell in love with every aspect of the job. The following year I was offered the role as Leasing Manager and relocated to Washington State! After working as a Leasing Manager and Assistant Community Manager in Washington for a couple of years, I accepted my first position as a Community Manager in Iowa. We went through an acquisition shortly after and relocated again to Texas, where I was able to dig back into my roots down South. Now, I am back in my newly found home in Washington at one of Asset Living’s beautiful new development properties!”
What piece of advice would you give to a new employee who is #BecomingAnAsset?
“Embrace the power of patience and commit to trying to learn something new every day! There are so many wonderful people within the company who will support you and your growth. If you take in their advice, you will undoubtedly succeed.”
What drives you to be the best team member possible?
“If I am feeling unmotivated and need to remind myself to be the best team member I can be, I imagine myself when I first started and how thankful I was to be surrounded by a great team. It is important to me that I can offer opportunities for growth, which is only possible if I am being the best I can be.”
What is your favorite memory from this year or within your career at Asset Living?
“Being able to move back to Washington!”
Lastly, what do you like to do outside of work in your free time?
“I love to golf, ride my motorcycle, and play chess!”
